LELAND, NC – US MgO will build a new manufacturing facility in Brunswick County for its innovative construction material products, creating at least 35 new jobs and $5 million in new investments.
The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners approved the sale of approximately 22 acres in the Leland Innovation Park to US MgO after a public hearing on April 7.
According to a news release from Brunswick County, the company will build a 75,000-square foot facility to house operations for “the manufacture of high-quality magnesium oxide (MgO) cement sheathing panels catering to the commercial, multifamily, and industrial construction markets in North America.”
Brunswick Business & Industry Development (BBID), Brunswick County and MgO officials spent the past 24 months to make sure that the company could use the county-owned property.
“We are pleased that US MgO has chosen Brunswick County for its manufacturing facility,” said Bill Early, Brunswick BID Executive Director. “We’ve had the pleasure to work with the US MgO team for the last 2 years, and they will be a great addition to the Leland community.”
According to BBID Board Chairman Allen Bryant, the purchase includes multiple tracts of land with geographical challenges.
“The property was difficult to develop, which is why we have been marketing for property for many years without success,” said Bryant. “Today represents the culmination of multiple efforts by many people, and we are so thankful that US MgO is able to utilize this property and create jobs and investment in our community.”
